Recently I have found myself obsessed with P-Valley. I love the show because it shows a workplace family it is supportive of each other. The reason I brought this up is because that is what made me fall in love with the t.v show Claws (also because I am a nail tech as well). Anyway, the one thing I had an issue from the jump with Claws is that the nail salon was a front for pushing pills. Even though Desna wanted her nail salon to stay a nail salon. It kept getting pushed into the drug business that eventually got turned into the casino business. It is frustrating to me because people always assume that black people can’t do legit business and that is exactly what this show is saying. As a future business owner people always question the validity of every little thing we do. Especially as a nail tech. I was told by my own people (yes I’m black) that the Asians I was working for knew what they were better at doing nails than me. It hurt my feelings because I went to school to learn my craft and have a license to prove it. To be told that because someone is Asian that they are better than me is the biggest insult ever. When you are successful at it. The black community trust you even less. For this stereotype that black people only make money through scheming to constantly make is a stereotype that needs to go away. I hope P-Valley don’t take that route but in order to have an interesting storyline sometimes you have to get somebody in jail, hell, purgatory or the worst part dead. Shout out to all the honest black business owners today.
